Beyond a Sunday morning Christian

When I think about the goodness of Jesus and all he’s done for me my soul truly cries out Hallelujah.

He has risen, and has ascended to heaven and he is seated at the right hand of the Father with ALL power in his hands!  With the keys to heaven and hell.

Where are you in your Christian walk? Do you attend church every Sunday, and then act like the devil all week long.  Do you use God in case of emergency?  For example, a family member has cancer, time to pray.  In other words in case of emergency “Break glass”.  Christianity is a lifestyle.  Not a Sunday deal.  So you are not getting any points because you go to church on Sunday.  Now don’t get me wrong, going to church and fellow-shipping with other believers is good, but not enough.  God wants a relationship with you.  You need to develop a personal relationship with God, and If you do not have that, you are totally missing the mark.  I want you to understand it takes time to build a relationship with God just as all relationships require time.  He already loves you, has knit you together in your mother’s womb, Psalm 139:13, and knew you before you were born,  Jeremiah 1:5.

So He’s waiting for you to humble yourself and come to Him.  Which is essentially saying God I can’t do it without you.  Do what you ask?  Anything.  John 15:5  “I am the vine and you are the branches if you remain in me you will bear much fruit , but apart from me you  can do Nothing.”  Spiritual maturity is a process!  God’s not mad at you because you haven’t perfected it yet, He’s interested in your growth, your potential, your possibilities.   He knows it will take time.  As Paul said  “not that I have obtained it yet, but this one thing I do forgetting what lies behind and pressing on to those things which are ahead”,  Philippians 3:13.  That’s one of my absolute favorite scriptures, Truth is I have so many favorites. “Smart Christian Woman’s Book is full of them.

So it’s not like you can earn God’s respect or build up points by going to church every Sunday or doing good works, because you see, “salvation is the Gift of God lest any man should boast”, Ephesians 2:9.  So hopefully you don’t see going to church as the extent of your Christian walk.  The goal is to become like Him. The more you walk with God the more you become like Him.  You come as you are, and then He changes us from glory to glory.  He starts to work on your personalities, and behaviors, through the renewing of your mind.  Our mind has to be renewed daily.

Roman 8: 6 says “to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life”.  Romans 12:2  “so do not be conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.”  Ezekiel 11:19,  “I will put a new spirit within them.”  Ephesians 2:10,  “For we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works.”  Titus 3;5,  “Not by works of righteousness for which we have done but according to His mercy.”  God wants a relationship with you where as you learn to come to him with every problem that you have.

For instance you might say I can’t discuss with God my problems at work, or problems with my children, or about my career.  Those are exactly the kinds of things He wants you to come to Him with.  Don’t put God in a box.  “My ways are higher than your ways My thoughts are higher than your thoughts”, Isaiah 55:9.  He’s saying, I’m smarter than you!  Glory to God.  He’s waiting for you to figure it out.  But once you get tired of struggling with this thing called life, you will come to Him.  “Seek the Lord while he may be found” Isaiah 55:6.  “Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest”  Matthew 11:28.  He is the chief surgeon able to repair the inner most parts of your soul.

He’s the alpha and the Omega.  The beginning and the end. You must believe that “HE IS” and is a re-warder of those that diligently seek Him.  I grew up in church so that seed was sown in me early.  I’ve always loved His Word.  The Bible says train a child up in the way they should go and when they are older they will not depart.  It’s true.  And I would say I kinda had one foot in the boat and one foot on the dock for a lot of my adult life.  But as the storms of life starting knocking me around I really got serious about my Walk as Christian about ten years ago.

It’s not the best decision I’ve ever made, it’s the only decision.  You take one step and God will take two.  Since then I can’t tell you how much He has blessed me!  He’s led me and guided me, and protected me, and taught me, and loved me.  It’s absolutely amazing what God has done!  And God is no respecter of persons He will do the same for you James 1:2-13.  But you cannot be a sideline Christian, He wants your whole heart.  You are mine.  “You have been bought with a price”. 1 Corinthians 6:2  “For I know the the plans I have for you”, Jeremiah 29:11.  God has a plan for your life.

How do I develop a relationship with God?

You Communicate with God through Prayer. This is not a on time thing, or a Sunday thing.  You must continually pray.  In fact the Bible says we are to “pray without ceasing”, 1 Thessalonians 5:17.  I can’t tell you how much I pray now or when, its just a part of me. I pray often. Whenever I need to.  Or sometimes there is not a need I just pray and tell God thank you for all you’ve done.  I just simply talk to Him and I don’t need a reason.  That’s how you know it’s a lifestyle.  And when you get real good, you will hear Him speak to you.  John 10:27  “My sheep know my voice.”  Mathew 11:15 “Let him who has an ear, hear what the spirit is saying.”

Study His Word!  Joshua 1:8 “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but thou shall meditate on it day and night.”  You may ask if I don’t read the Bible everyday and every night will I still have a relationship with God?  What He’s really saying is make it a habit.  Do it often and it will become a part of you.  So much so that you will not keep count.  I can’t say that I read the Bible every single day and every single night.  I do it often.  Often I have to research scriptures for the blog and that’s daily.

When I wrote the book which again is full of scriptures I spent a year running all around the Bible.  Or I just read it personally for myself.  There’s something that happens to you when you read the Word of God, it penetrates your soul.  Hebrews 4:12  “The word of God is  alive, living, quick and powerful and sharper than any two edge sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of thoughts and intents of the heart.”  But don’t you worry because Philippians 1:6 says “He that has begun a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Jesus Christ.”

Choose your friends and associates wisely.  1 Corinthians 15:33 says “do not be mislead, bad companionship corrupts good morals”.  Amos 3:3  “How can two walk together unless they be agreed.”  Surround yourself with other believers.  You will need the encouragement and their testimonies.  You may want to join a Bible study group. There’s power in agreement.

“Praise and Worship him.”  John 4:23

You can worship the Lord with the word of your mouth.  You can worship him with praise music.  I usually worship God in the morning.  I’m a morning person and like to give Him the first few minutes of my day.  Talk to Him, praise Him, tell Him thank you and how grateful I am.

Get into a good Bible based church and fellowship with other believers.

do unto others pin  Golden rule
