Living A Balanced Life

It can be really difficult trying to live a balanced life these days with our busy individual worlds which we live in.  Organization is the key to a balanced life.  Take out your notepad and organize or reorganize your life to bring balance.

The trouble with living out of balance is that usually when one thing suffers it’s like a domino effect causing other things to get out of balance also.  For example, you’re a good mom, good wife and have a healthy happy family, but you don’t take care of yourself physically.  You’re so focused on the family and the business of life that you have let yourself go over the past few years.

Or say you’re a great wife and mom, and you take care of yourself physically.  You exercise and eat right, but your spirit is left thirsty because you do not feed yourself with the Word of God.  If you are not spiritually strong you will become easily stressed out, agitated, irritated, and eventually depressed.  Or as church folk put it, stay prayed up.

Staying spiritually strong is my secret for  handling the challenges of life.  It’s amazing when my spirit is strong things don’t bother me the way they did if I wasn’t.  I’m more relaxed now, “So what I raced over to the bank and it was closed, I’ll just go tomorrow.”

I see that I get over things more quickly and easily and the freedom of it is nice. Say you are great in every one of those areas except your health if you health fails nothing else matters.  So perhaps balancing our lives could use some tweaking.

5 Tips for Living a Well Balanced Life

  1. Take care of and nurture yourself.  You cannot accomplish anything if you’re unhealthy. Get plenty of rest, eat and exercise properly. Ideally everyday set a time aside for things that you enjoy like listening to music, working out or walking.
Allow yourself to unwind after a hectic day by reading meditating or taking a hot bath.  Many of us think that we can burn the candle at both ends, eat junk food, get very little exercise and still function at high level. This may work for a while, but this lifestyle catches up with you and results in burn out.

  2. Know what your priorities are – Make a list starting with the most important first. Prioritize. Is there something in your schedule that you could do without?  Balance does not entail cramming everything that you can get into one day. Set some personal boundaries. Depending on which stage of your life you’re in your values will be different and will change.

  3. Create an efficient mindset – Take the time at the start of each new week to assess what needs to be done that week, write it down, be organized and plan ahead.

  4. Expect the unexpected – Learn to roll with the punches when something over which you have no control happens. Rather than getting stressed out and upset. You could get stuck in traffic, your computer could crash, (God Forbid) your child could get chicken pox. Stuff happens. If you except that anything can happen anytime, it’s less likely to throw you off stride when it does.  This comes with maturity.

  5. Maintain a positive mental attitude – Begin each day with the intention of making the most of it. It may not always go as planned but it can go a little smoother if you put it in perspective.

Christian Women Entrepeuneurs

Businesswomen on White

Women are on  the rise in business.  I heard a statistic the other day that 30% business owners in the US are Women.  We applaud these individual women along with strong Christian business organizations and networks building successful entrepreneurs.  Entrepreneurship among  women has grown over the last 10 years at an astonishing rate for each race of the American woman.  No doubt more than half these women also have families and are homemakers and business women which demands a lot more effort.  But as SCW already knows “We can do all things in Christ that strengthens us.”

I think with the rise of women as entrepreneurs, women are  wanting not just a job or career but rather personal accomplishment, and financial freedom.  They are using their God given gifts to manifest, and you can do the same thing as well.  What are your God given gifts and talents?  Examine what they are and how you can turn that into a successful business for your self.  Ask yourself what can you do well ? What needs can you fill?

For example my Godmother is a nurse, however she is a also an excellent gourmet cook.  If she wanted she could easily have her own restaurant and do well, or start a catering business.  She has not done this, but she has sold dinners in her community.  Her heart is in nursing more than cooking, but you get the idea.  Whatever you can do well, its a gift and those gifts can be used to prosper you.  Whatever you do well, if its sewing, good with children, good with numbers,  a person good with numbers can make good money at tax time or in accounting.  Maybe your passion is beauty and hair, perhaps having your own shop would be a good business for you.

You may say well I don’t have the money to start a business right there’s always the SBA- Small business Administration.  You may want to try a partner, you can partner together to build a successful business. The biggest merger in business right now if you haven’t heard Rite Aid is merging with Walgreens.

There are organizations that you are going to learn about in this post that provide Business mentoring and coaching to show you how to start from scratch building your brand.  Where you can also receive support and ministry from other Christian women who have already done what you’d like to do. “Do not despise the days of small beginnings.”  Small things turn into big things with God’s help.

Keeping Love Alive after Baby Arrives

San Diego Wedding Photography Engagement Outdoor Family Child Newborn Photographer

  • Psychologist say that the number one tip to remember for new parents is this: Parents think the right thing to do is to, “Put the baby first”  Right? Actually wrong. Your relationship is what comes first and instead your bringing the baby into the coupled relationship. If your relationship falls apart that’s not good for the baby. It’s easier said than done but we’ve got to keep the main thing the main thing.
1 Corinthians 14:40  “Let everything be done decently and in order.”

Having a baby is a supremely joyous occasion for most couples, but it is also a major life event. For seasoned moms that have two or more kids, you’ve been there done that, have the tee shirt and know what to expect. For new moms it is indeed a totally new experience.  New parents struggle with physical and emotional pressures including sleep deprivation, fatigue, pain, lowered sexual desire, violated expectations, changing roles and identities and sometimes depression.  3 years after the birth of a child, two thirds of couples will experience a significant drop in relationship quality, and have dramatic increase in conflict and hostility says Carolyn Pirak, National program director and parent educator for the Seattle based ” Bring Baby Home Project”.

In our society there is little support for parents during this vulnerable time. Just as you wouldn’t approach labor and delivery without knowing what to expect neither should you enter parenthood without understanding how it will affect your relationship. One of the most frequent mistakes Pirak sees is parents assuming the transition will be easy. This means they’re surprised by the challenges and assume that something must be wrong with the relationship. Well no, this is what you’ve signed up for, join the club.  There’s been a major change in your life, and now an adjusting period will take place.

7 Tips to help keep intimacy in your Relationship

  1.  Take a romantic stroll during your child’s nap time, the fresh air is good for your child while he is sleeping in the stroller and you and your partner can take a nice long stroll and get some quiet time until the baby awakes. Hey you have to get it in where you can.

  2.  Show affection just because – Acts of love and kindness don’t take a lot of effort or time but they do show your partner you love him and you care. Remember when you used to call just to say hi, that doesn’t need to stop, nor the text messages or sticky love notes on the bathroom mirror. Experiment with doing something loving for your partner once a week.

  3.  Take ten minutes to connect each day it’s easy to lose track of what’s going on in your partners world outside of home when the baby comes. Conversations and attention tend to revolve around your children. Take ten minutes where you DO NOT discuss the baby, instead ask your spouse about his day and let him ask about your day, make a habit of doing it at a time when you can give each other your undivided attention.  You’ll be surprised at how a little empathy can go a long way in keeping you guys connected.

  4. Date Night – After the baby comes date night becomes more complex, organizing baby sitters, bottles, bedtimes, can sometimes seems like a hassle, but do not neglect it.  It will not be good for your relationship, which believe or not even with the baby your couple relationship is your top priority.
  5. Expect plans to change – Your going to have to be flexible.  All the planning in the world can’t change a sick baby or a sleepless night. Many times the best laid plans will fall to pieces, don’t be discouraged just keep trying.

  6. Plan ahead – Before kids, you could go out on a date whenever you wanted or stay up all night chatting.  With a new baby, it takes a lot of planning ahead to make any of that happen. But it can still be done. You now have a new normal. Your life will revolve around the baby’s schedule. So that means you are going to have to make good use of the baby’s nap times to have time for yourself and your husband. Make use of the baby’s grandparents to give the couple a night off.

  7. Eventually when you are able to leave your child for a couple hours your date nights will evolve. However, if you can’t leave your child, make a date night at home. The idea is to make alone time with your spouse a regular occurrence, one that is prioritized and doesn’t get bumped aside.

Keeping passion alive after years of Marriage

After years of marriage which is a victory in and of itself, keeping passion and your sex life alive will require effort on both your parts at best.  Romance, passion has to be rekindled, renewed revamped.  sex doesn’t have to get boring in marriage or worse become non-existent.  You have to feed the passion and romance in your marriage.  Remember what you feed will grow what you starve will die. Think of a passionate sex life in this way, with sex you are always headed to the same place you just have to find new and interesting ways of getting there.

So how do I keep that flame burning?

  • Sexual intimacy is a continuing process of discovery. True intimacy through communication is what makes sex great.

  • Change your Environment.  If you are used to doing things in the same place the same way all the time every time, it will breed predictability, which is death to passion . Try another room in the house.  Stay overnight in a hotel, or bed and breakfast. If you cannot afford to get away, consider a makeover to the bedroom,  fresh paint makeover to the walls , new linens.  Make your bedroom as warm inviting and cozy as it can be.  It’s just a good idea to revamp the look of your home with the changing of the seasons, yes even the seasons change.

  • When life is busy and schedules are hectic, plan for sexual encounters with your spouse. Make sex a priority.

  • Don’t expect your spouse to be the only one in the marriage responsible for keeping romance alive, it’s a joint effort.

  • Schedule date nights, exclusive time for you and your spouse alone.

  • Let your spouse know that you care and are thinking of them throughout the day, phone calls, emails, texts, etc…

  • Learn your spouse’s love language outside of the bedroom.  Be kind and good to one another,  you catch more bees with honey than vinegar.

  • Accept the notion that there will be storms and droughts. Weather the storms, endure the droughts. You have to be devoted to marriage itself as an institution as much as the person you’re married to.  That way in trying times you will have that holding power.  A storm is not a failure.  It’s just a storm and like all storms you just have to let it pass.

  • Best way to keep the flame lit is to not let it go out. Don’t let things simmer on low for too long.

  • Service – by serving with a willing heart that wants to do something kind for one another you develop greater love and compassion for that person, make breakfast in bed, wash the others car, bring home a favorite CD or book.  Little things mean a lot.
