Ephesians 6:11-13, “Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devils schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities of the power of darkness and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armour of God so that when the day of evil comes you may be able to stand your ground, and having done able to stand.”
God doesn’t leave us in a fight without protection, we have weapons!. 2 Corinthians 10:4, “The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God for the pulling down of strongholds.” I like what the NLT, New Living Translation says: “Use God’s mighty weapons to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.” Life is a struggle. It’s a struggle to live a good life, a struggle to have good relationships, a struggle for change, a struggle to do the right things. We cannot stop the things that come against us but we do have weapons to fight with and a shield to protect us. The Lord God who is on our side. Do you know what those weapons are?
The Full Armor of God
A soldier with a breastplate goes into battle boldly with confidence. The enemy is constantly attacking us with lies, accusations, conflicts, reminders of past sin. Without the breastplate these will penetrate your heart. Become aware of who you are in Christ Jesus.
Stand firm in the belt of truth buckled around your waist. The belt of truth involves 2 places, our hearts and our minds. Truth keeps us secure in Christ and makes effective all other pieces of honor. The belt holds our armour in place.
The shoes of Peace. Put on the peace that comes from the good news so that you are fully prepared. Shoes allow us to step freely and without fear so that we may turn our attention to the battle at hand. Prepare yourself to follow the Lord no matter what.
The shield defends our whole body but also the armor. The shield has a very specific function. It quenches all the fiery darts of the enemy. The shield moves with the attack no matter the direction.
The helmet protects our minds from doubting the truth of God’s saving work for us. Deuteronomy 8 :2, “remember how the Lord your God has led all the way.”
- Arguments, thoughts, strongholds, are weapons the enemy uses against us. With the sword (God’s Word) we are equipped to deal with them all. Have confidence in the value of God’s Word. As evil as the enemy is, it’s the all-powerful almighty God whom I fear the most. Proverbs 1:7, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.”
