Verse of the day:
To : Our friend and Brother Kirk, may God be with you.

All of America is online! In fact the whole world is online. All you need is a phone with internet capabilities, a smartphone and your in. Facebook, Instagram,Twitter. You can record your whole life and post it for all the world to see. Every thought you think be it positive or negative just click and send. Although the internet can fill our need for instantaneous gratification it has forever changed relationships and the way we communicate. My husband and I were recently out on date night in L.A. We had dinner at a restaurant just a couple of blocks from Venice Beach. The plan was after dinner we’d leave the car, walk to the beach and watch the sunset.
We went to our car to get our beach blankets. Being that this is Venice Beach, there’s no shortage of indoor, outdoor restaurants and bars there couples everywhere and they all come to watch the sunset. One couple happened to catch our attention. They were walking side by side headed toward the beach. She was looking down at her phone and he was looking down at his. Sad. You may have seen couples like this, or worse a couple is out at dinner sitting at the table ignoring each other both on their phones. Really? Whatever happened to uninterrupted quality time? I guess it’s the latest casualty that’s fallen by the wayside in the age of advanced technology. The post today talks about ways in which technology may be ruining your relationships and how to stop it!
Welcome Autumn! Fall officially begins Sunday, September 23rd. If you’ve been following me you know its my favorite season. It cools down here in sunny southern California. The warm days give way to cool evenings and crisp mornings. The new season brings fresh hope! New opportunities, and expectation of God’s goodness. I found a great article I want to share with you from Billy Graham. It’s called “5 ways to start a new season!” Ecclesiastes 3:1, “To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven.”
“All around you are people whose lives are filled with trouble and sorrow, and they need your compassion and encouragement.” —Billy Graham
One of the best ways to re-energize your own life is to focus on someone else’s. Is there a young person in your life in need of a mentor? Approach him or her about being that person. Are there people in your family or neighborhood you don’t normally spend time with? Reach out and invite them to a meal or activity with you.
You might also consider serving your church or community in some way – even if it’s for a short period of time or something you can do from home.
The Bible says even Jesus Christ, “came not to be served but to serve” (Matthew 20:28). Serving is a great way not only to live out your faith, but to to meet and impact new people, and improve the places around you. You may discover a new talent or hobby while you’re at it.
“Too often we use petty little petitions, oratorical exercises, or the words of others rather than the cries of our inmost being. When you pray, pray!” —Billy Graham
Do you ever find yourself praying for the same things over and over? There’s something to be said for persistence in prayer, but it can also be good to expand your conversation with God.
Think of someone – or maybe a group of people – you don’t normally pray for and add that person or group to your prayers. If no one comes to mind, ask God to give you a specific burden that you take to Him in prayer. You might even ask others to join you. Whatever you pray for, expect God to work.
“And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, [Jesus] departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed.” – Mark 1:35
If Jesus needed alone time with God, how much more do we?
Maybe you’ve heard of having “quiet time” with God but haven’t yet made it a habit. Now is a good time to start! Quiet time means setting aside a few moments in your day devoted solely to God – without distractions. You might spend that time talking to God in prayer, meditating on something you read in Scripture, seeking His direction, or simply being quiet and letting God speak to you. As Psalm 46:10 urges us, “Be still, and know that I am God.”
“Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; let the field exult, and everything in it! Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy before the Lord …” –Psalm 96:13
Sometimes a bit of fresh air can do us a lot of good – physically, mentally and spiritually.
Remember that God created the nature around us to be used and enjoyed. It’s also an expression of Himself – a sign of His handiwork (Psalm 19:1). Take time to get outside – or sit at a window if you can’t get out – and take in all of God’s creation. You might make a mental note of all the beauty you see or all the ways God’s character is evident in the creation around you.
“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” – Philippians 4:8
Where’s your focus today? If you find yourself full of fear or worry, dwelling on a difficult past or venting one complaint after another, maybe it’s time for an attitude adjustment.
That doesn’t mean ignoring trials and turmoil around you, but keeping your attention on God’s promises for His children – on His faithfulness, provision, comfort, peace, unfailing love and eternal life. Your positive outlook and trust in God may rub off on people around you.
We have a special treat for your weekend reading and listening pleasure. A double post about the hot topic of submission and “What men wish women knew” and “What women wish men knew”. Enjoy. When a woman submits to her husband, she is actually submitting to God! God set the man as leader and a woman can trust that God is good. She also knows that nothing escapes God’s notice and a wicked man will be held accountable for his actions. Did you know that God cares about women so much that if a husband doesn’t treat her right his prayers will not be answered!
I’ll prove it to you:
1 Peter 3:7 “Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.” So God has you covered ladies! However, a submissive wife is not relegated to idly sitting by while her husband makes all the family decisions. In a healthy marriage, husband and wife work as a team. When a decision cannot be jointly agreed upon, the leader makes it, knowing he is responsible foremost unto God for that decision. He is commanded as leader to make good decisions for the family.
The healthy submissive is capable of, and thrives on, intense, intimate, emotionally open relationships. This is often evident in the number of nourishing, sustaining, and life affirming friendships she makes over the years.
|The healthy submissive is a giver. She often needs help to ration herself because her impulses nearly always lead her to want to do good for others.
Ever wonder what’s on the minds of single and married Christian men and women today?
I’m excited to bring to you, “The Chat”, a Christian show that features open, honest dialogue from a Christian perspective. Find out what men think, and what they wish women knew. What sends single men running in the other direction, what attracts him to you, how can we build better relationships.
Learn about everything from submission to leadership in the home. I thought the posts complement one another and should go together. Of course not to be outdone “What women wished men knew”. It’s both for couples and singles alike, you are sure to enjoy, “What men wished women knew”. My advice to ladies is really listen in on what the men have to say and then make mental adjustments accordingly. In order to make changes we have to first understand.
SCW wants to lift up a fellow believer, Kirk and his family in prayer! We understand that you don’t know him, but he is richly loved by us. He’s battling a serious illness, and if any of you have family members or friends that have gone through this you know how tough it can be on the entire family. So as a connected family of believers we ask that you pray for him as we do for you. May God bless your hearts.
