New Year’s Eve Party Planning & Safety Tips 2017

The New Year’s Eve Holiday is exciting and Fabulous!  With Thanksgiving and Christmas behind us, it ‘s time to turn our thoughts to the New Year!  It’s a time to celebrate our accomplishments of the year, reflect on the goodness of God in our lives and how He has brought us through.  It’s also a time of reflection on the lessons He teaches us along the way, as well as time to look forward to the New Year!

The blessing of a new year gives us hope,  a fresh start, and a chance to be near those closest to us. Time to celebrate!  Yes you can plan an awesome party for New years eve inexpensively.  The Good thing is New Years eve at least is not one of those big food holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas.  So you should be spending less on preparation.  New Years eve parties can be simple or fancy.  It’s really about having fun, seeing friends, and the countdown to midnight.  Of course you’ll have food but it doesn’t need to be over the top.  Traditionally New Years Day dinners are nice, but New Years eve you can get away with appetizers.  The number one rule keep it simple!

  1. Keep Decorations Simple.  Use candles! Set a nice table, (use  holiday decorations as in opening picture) Check out dollar store for banners, party hats, noisemakers, plastic ware, etc.. You’ll pay more at other stores and for throw aways, it just make sense.
  2. Host later in the evening. Hosting later in the evening allows you to serve a lighter meals or appetizers.  If people are arriving later, chances are they’ve eaten, and late new years eve parties often have champagne and appetizers not full course meals.  Serve Amazing appetizers like mini cheese burgers on a stick, buffalo wings, Baked Potato, topped with butter cheese and sour cream with bacon.
  3. Check the internet for free or cheap New Years eve events in your neighborhood.  Local community parties can be great, get your friends together and check out a local party.
  4. Host a potluck dinner.  You’ll have variety and save money on buying everything yourself.

  1. Have a designated driver.  If you are unable to get a designated driver, in most cities this is the only day of the year when cab rides are free if you’ve had too much drink.
  2.  Women should travel together to stay safe. There’s strength in numbers.  Or at least buddy up!  Two of you together rather than alone.
  3. Make sure phones are charged before going out, use a car charger if you have one.
  4. Use self control avoid drinking so much that you are unaware of your surroundings. Be alert.

Author’s Note:

A prayer for the family as we begin this holiday season.  Our culture is largely shaped by Mass Media.  Television, movies, internet, news.  There is an attack on the nuclear family, an attack on Christians, Christianity, and religion in general.

Our children are constantly being fed sex, and debauchery.  Although we cannot shield our children from the media because they can always get access to it through other means.

It just means that parents have to be stronger today than ever before.  Strong and consistent parenting is badly needed. There was something when I was coming up called “home training”.

Which means children learn right from wrong and the ways of the world in the home.  The home was the measurement stick.  There has to be structure in a child’s life.  Some of the training lessons we were taught were how to conduct ourselves, how to speak, to have respect for your elders.

If you are a parent out there that teaches from the home and instills old school values, God bless you we need more of that.  For Men, if you have the time consider mentoring another young man without a dad or strong male figure in his life.

The time you spend now will stay with that young person throughout life.  The consensus seems to be to live lawless reject God’s laws and do whatever feels good.

Media would have you to believe that the structure of the family and God’s order is not important but the devil is a lier! It’s extremely important.  Men and fathers are the backbone of the family.  Women and mothers are the support system and nurturers.

Make it your goal that your children will know God!  Love God, follow his principals for successful living.  Make them understand that their souls are on the line.  These light afflictions are but for a moment, but worketh for us a far more exceeding weight of Glory.

Amplified Bible,  2 Corinthians 4:17,  “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all!”.  Make them know that God is your best friend!  People are so fickle they will turn on you in a minute.

But let them know God never changes “He’s the same today, yesterday, and forever more.”  Hebrews 13: 8. Philippians 3:3  Put no confidence in the flesh.” “I the lord your God change not”,  Malachi 3:6.

Make them understand, “do not be conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind”.  Romans 12:2.  Being saved was the best thing I ever did or can do for myself!  No we can’t change the world but we sure can’t let them change us!  Hold fast to your family in this season, and become stronger!

If you are reading this today, and you are wrapped up in sin,  Return to the Lord!  Psalm 34:14, “Turn from Evil and Do Good, Seek peace and pursue it.”

God Bless You!

Thanksgiving Planning Guide

Happy Holidays Everyone!  Anyone who’s been following SCW knows it’s my favorite time of year.  The weather, the blessings, entertaining, the love, the cheer, and most of all family and cherished friends.   Entertaining can be so much fun but it’s a lot of work depending on the number of people you serve.   Planning and preparing for big meals decreases the stress and takes the guess-work out of the day.  When you’re armed with a plan things go a lot smoother.
Make a list, create a budget for the number of people you have and how much you want to spend.  Plan the time of day you want to have your dinner.  Let guests know when dinner will be served.  If you are cooking your turkey for instance early thanksgiving morning, remember it takes about five hours to cook which is why some opt to cook it the night before.  You do what works for you.  I’ve prepared several videos for your main dishes as well as dessert.  Refer to the videos as often as you like.  Have fun and enjoy a stress free holiday.

Author’s Note: The blessings of the Lord are upon us.  Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.  I will continue to pray for my beloved readers and followers that God will touch your heart and bring change in your area of need.  Joshua 1:8 “Thou shalt have good success.”  What are you thankful for?  I’m so grateful and thankful for all God has done in my life and especially in the lives of those that have been touched by SCW.  Leave a comment tell us what you’re thankful for and what your looking forward to in the new year.  It’s a busy time for me.  Those of you who’ve been following me for some time now know that I’ve been working on my second degree!  And praise God I finally graduated, but still in school picking up a few classes!  So I’m once again preparing for exams.

Thankfully we have the Thanksgiving break coming up.  I’m looking forward to some much deserved rest and time with family.  Continue to pray for me and my family, as I will pray for you that God will give you the desires of your heart and bring you to the place He has for you on your journey.  We all have different hopes and dreams but it is God will that will succeed.  So we’re in it together!  We know that “All things work together for the good of those who love the Lord and are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

Mind, Body and Spirit

We are a three-part being.  1 Thessalonians 5:23, “And the very God of peace sanctify you completely and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  We are spirit, we live in a body, and we have a soul, which is  made up of our mind, our will, and our emotions.  We are a spirit just as God is a spirit.  God is the Master Spirit.  The Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit.  The “natural man” (unsaved),  is governed only by his soul and bodily appetites because he is spiritually dead. (1 Cor 2:14)  If you are saved today, you are a new creature in Christ Jesus.

However we still have some work to do.  We as born again Christians, have been made spiritually alive and we are supposed to be governed and controlled by the Holy Spirit and our own born again Spirit, the Bible calls it “the new regenerated self”.  So we have “put off our old ways”.  Old ways of thinking, old ways of doing and being.  While our spirits are saved, our minds are still being renewed.  This means we must deal with our thought life and emotions.  Part of the battle is the battlefield of the mind!

The enemy comes against our minds.  We must be careful what we put before our eyes and what we allow into our minds and emotions.  That’s why we are told to “take every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”  Our soul includes our emotions which are unreliable!  We can’t trust it nor can we let our emotions be the final authority over us.  Our minds have to constantly be renewed.  Make up in your mind that you will ask God to renew your mind daily.  To be renewed means to have a fresh mental attitude.  Cast down every high thing that exalts itself  against God.

God’s Word must be the final authority!!  Is it easy?  No!  It’s the toughest fight of your life, but God didn’t promise it would be.   He said He’ll be with us!!!!  The scariest thing for me was being out of the will of God.  I don’t want to ever be out of the will of God!  I’ve been there and trust me, “being covered” by God is much better.  I love this scripture, Matthew 10:28, “And fear not them which can kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul, but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in Hell!”

Do you know what He’s saying?  He’s saying instead of being worried about “people” living to please them, what you better be worried about is ME! (The Lord God Almighty).  Guard yourselves with all diligence, take care of your body, mind, and spirit.  Feed your spirit the Word of God.  Read to build up your mind!  Exercise to build your body and eat nutritious meals to stay healthy.

Healthy Habits for mind Body and Spirit

  • Eat real Food – Processed foods are a major contributor to obesity and illnesses.  Real foods and a healthy balanced diet are keys s to good health!

  • Move your Body – You don’t have to have a gym membership. Start right where you are, get moving by walking, biking, going up and down stairs, swimming, exercising at home, the point is to use or lose it!

  • Prioritize your sleep – When we are low on sleep it affects our metabolism, makes us irritable, low on energy, unable to think clearly.  A good night sleep regenerates us!

  • Learning something new – Expands our mind and thought processes and keeps us moving forward in life.  When the mind has been expanded it cannot go back.

  •  Avoid the negative – Negative people, places, TV shows, thoughts, concerns.

  • Focus on the Good and Positive – The Bible says whatsoever is true and of good report think on these things.

  •  Let yourself have fun – Laughter keeps us young!

  • Retreat to calm the mind and the body.

  • Show love to God, yourself and others –  You show love Love to God by reading his Word, obeying, his Word, aligning your life up with his Word.  Show love to yourself by taking care of yourself, show love to others by showing them you care.

  • Reach out and help someone else. We help heal ourselves by reaching out to others.

  • Pray without ceasing

Valentine’s Day Dinner Menu for Two

valentines-day-dinner-menu-dinner-for-two

Love at first Bite!  We love going out to dinner and trying new restaurants!  but if you’rE like me on Valentines Day we usually just enjoy staying in and preparing a delicious meal!  That way you can avoid the holiday crowds, driving, parking, waiting, etc…  And it’s much more relaxing to have an awesome evening at home.  It’s also nice to have a great evening out with your significant other and be waited on while you focus on one another.  No matter how you choose to make your dinner plans this year the key here is to divert from the norm. This is where you want to splurge a little and choose a meal you wouldn’t normally have.

For instance since my husband and I have cut down on the red meat, for diet and health reasons now steak is a luxury for me. Also, I love lobster but it’s not something I have every night so that’s one of the dishes on our menu for VDay this year.  So what do you have a taste for that you haven’t had in a while?

While you give that some thought let’s get started planning your Valentine’s day dinner menu.  I’m sure you will be inspired by a delicious dish that makes the cut this year for SCW’s special holiday menu! And dessert on Valentine’s day is a must!  So no counting calories, no feeling guilty, just total delicious abandon!

Fit for Life in 2017 New Year New You

o-older-woman-exercise-facebook

It’s fresh start week at SCW and we’re making a fresh start with a healthy lifestyle. This year get moving!  The number way to stay healthy is to be active.  An active lifestyle that keeps you on the go is also burning calories.  Don’t think diet, think lifestyle.  Studies have shown physical activity leads to improved mood and feelings of well-being.  The positive changes you make this year will set you on track for a blueprint of healthy lifestyle for years to come.  Easy? No, but worth it.  The hardest part is to start.
Change is hard.  If you need to pray about it, do so.  Pray that God will strengthen your willpower to help you meet your goals.  If you do not make a change you’ll actually be worse off than last year because you will gain MORE weight.  The more you gain, the harder it gets, and the more unhappy you will be. My motivation for working out is that I know I will be unhappy with the way I look if I don’t.  There used to be a time when I could eat anything I wanted and not gain a pound those days are no more!
I have to work at it now.  I’m in the gym every weekday morning by 6am because I’m committed to my health, to myself and to my husband.  When I had a check up last year I found that had improved my overall health significantly by diet change and exercise. That made me feel awesome. Do something good for yourself!  Live long and be strong because you’re a Smart Christian Woman.  Remember your health is your greatest asset.

Thanksgiving Entertaining

5-tips-for-thanksgiving-entertaining

Thanksgiving entertaining is an American tradition.  A celebration of beloved foods and customs.  They evoke happy memories of time spent with family and friends. To make sure your dinner party runs smoothly, have a plan for how you’d like the evening to go.  Do as much as you can ahead of time to allow yourself a little more time to eliminate feeling pressured.  You don’t have to spend a fortune on decorations to dress up your table, you just have to know where to shop.  Try places like Michael’s, Target and Dollar Tree.  A great party starts with a great host.  It is the job of the host to make sure the environment is warm and inviting and that guests feel welcomed.

Below are 5 simple practical tips to make your Thanksgiving entertaining a memorable event.

  1.  Do set a warm and inviting table.

  2.  Add candles to give your table an elegant touch

  3.  Be sure to have tasty non alcoholic drink for guest who do not drink wine. For that festive look dress with garnish and serve cold.

 4. Pray. Give thanks to God for all your blessings and remember not to take a day for granted.

  5. If you’re going to be cooking for a large number of people ask your guests to each bring a dish. For instance if you’re hosting and cooking the meal, they can bring the desserts, pies, etc.  Ask your guest to each bring a dish.
