Thanksgiving Planning Guide 2017

Happy Holidays Everyone!  Anyone who’s been following SCW knows it’s my favorite time of year.  The weather, the blessings, entertaining, the love, the cheer, and most of all family and cherished friends.   Entertaining can be so much fun but it’s a lot of work depending on the number of people you serve.   Planning and preparing for big meals decreases the stress and takes the guess-work out of the day.  When you’re armed with a plan things go a lot smoother.
Make a list, create a budget for the number of people you have and how much you want to spend.  Plan the time of day you want to have your dinner.  Let guests know when dinner will be served.  If you are cooking your turkey for instance early thanksgiving morning, remember it takes about five hours to cook which is why some opt to cook it the night before.  You do what works for you.  I’ve prepared several videos for your main dishes as well as dessert.  Refer to the videos as often as you like.  Have fun and enjoy a stress free holiday.

Author’s Note: The blessings of the Lord are upon us.  Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.  I will continue to pray for my beloved readers and followers that God will touch your heart and bring change in your area of need.  Joshua 1:8 “Thou shalt have good success.”  What are you thankful for?  I’m so grateful and thankful for all God has done in my life and especially in the lives of those that have been touched by SCW.  Leave a comment tell us what you’re thankful for and what your looking forward to in the new year.  It’s a busy time for me.  Those of you who’ve been following me for some time now know that I’m working on my second degree!  And I’m almost there, about 80% of the way praise GOD!  I’m preparing for exams.

Thankfully we have the Thanksgiving break coming up.  I’m looking forward to some much deserved rest and time with family.  Continue to pray for me and my family, as I will pray for you that God will give you the desires of your heart and bring you to the place He has for you on your journey.  We all have different hopes and dreams but it is God will that will succeed.  So we’re in it together!  We know that “All things work together for the good of those who love the Lord and are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

Weekend Read: Cultivating Good Spending Habits & Nurturing the Nurturer

The Holidays are on the way!  And it’s a great time to take control over unhealthy spending habits!  This is the time of the year when we spend the most money shopping.  Women are big shoppers anyway even without a holiday.  We shop for ourselves, we do the shopping for the household and we shop for our children and families.  It’s a blessing, to be able to shop.  That being said, what causes spending habits to be unhealthy?

Spending habits are unhealthy when it causes you to have stress and anxiety about paying your bills.  For me it kinda takes the fun out of it if I’m worried about finances.  So what can you do?  Remove the stress in your life by not overextending yourself.  This is something you can get control of with time, patience and consistency.  This season let your focus be your family and the blessings of the Lord instead of stressing about the ton of bills that the new year will bring with it.

  1. Maxing out your limit and paying the minimum on credit cards.  It costs you the most interest and lowers your credit score.  You’re almost guaranteeing yourself that you will never be out of debt.  The goal is to build credit by paying bills on time, before time and keeping the balance due down.

  2.  Shopping without a plan.  You go to the mall armed with credit cards or lots of cash, or both,  and no plan.  Just you and your money being tossed to and fro never keeping account and spending like there’s no tomorrow.  Make a list of what you intend to purchase at what store.  You know what you’re going out to buy.  Stick to the plan.

  3. Avoid last-minute purchases that make for impulsive shopping.  If it’s last-minute you don’t have time to think it through or shop for deals.  So you want to avoid impulsive shopping.

  4. There’s always another sale.  Buy now!  Shop before it’s too late.  Lies!  Don’t buy into the lie that you’ll never see a sale like this again.  Especially at holiday time.  There are store marketers who stay up nights putting together the perfect sales to get you into the store.

  • Be Smart.  Make a list monthly of what is coming in and how much has to go out.  After expenses what you have left is what you keep.  Each month will be different because of life’s unexpected incidences … a child may get sick, car repairs, etc…  Your knowledge of your situation is most important because how can you control your spending if you’re not keeping account of what you have.  Also it’s biblical to be good stewards of the resources God gives us.  If you want God to increase you, you have to do well with what you have.  Luke 16:10, Amplified Version: “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”   My husband is very good at this, he’s a very good money manager.  It’s great because it’s his job as head of the house. “Listen up independent ladies”  It doesn’t matter how much money I make it does not change his “position” as head of the house.  God has placed him in leadership!  I love a man in charge!

  • Start Saving!  If you already are great!  Keep it up!  If not get started.  If you’re constantly removing and never putting anything back it will result in a deficit.  You should be saving now right up until retirement.  Checking and savings go hand in hand.  Checking account is for expenses.  Savings account is money you keep.  Start small and build.  If people in the depression can save so
    can we!
  • Make a realistic budget and live within your means.  You can’t just always spend more than you have and hope that things will work out.  Make a promise to yourself that you will no longer set yourself up for disaster.  Create a budget that has breathing room for fun.  Fun doesn’t have to mean something big and expensive.  Whether you have a family or are single there has to be some recreation.  Maybe on the weekends the family likes to go bowling for instance.  Or you’re single and you treat yourself to a movie at the mall and some window shopping.  Write the vision and make it plain, Habakkuk 2:2

Mom is an awesome resource!  She’s a resource of love, caring, understanding, and wisdom.  God created her to be a resource to her family.  In the modern world we live in, mom’s role often extends outside the home to career and community.  It’s a lot of different hats to wear and can get very tiresome trying to be all things for everyone.  At the same time it’s extremely fulfilling and rewarding for those that relish being a mom!

One of the drawbacks is that you can be so focused on others that you often neglect yourselves.  The result of that is a mom who is exhausted and resentful.  Can’t have that!  Mom’s need nurturing and caring too.  Moms must treat themselves well as a lifestyle.  There needs to be time that is set aside just for you.  Non guilty, uninterrupted time.  Location or finances is not important.  It can be time to yourself in your own home.  But you need mom downtime to regenerate, otherwise you’ll just be burned out.  We want mom happy, we want mom healthy, beautiful, and radiant!  Let’s learn the art of relaxation for Mom!

If you are able to get away to the spa at least once a month for a complete day that’s awesome, I highly recommend it.  They have various treatments and massages to relax and pamper you.  This is of course aside from your regular pedicures and manicures.  A woman has a lot of maintenance and when a woman takes care of herself it shows.

DIY home spa.  Spa atmosphere is about creating a mood to relax you.  That means peace and quiet and time for yourself for whatever block of time you allow.  If it’s just an hour or two.  It’s not relaxing if the kids are banging on the door.  So this time alone thing will take some planning but be well worth it. You can give yourself a pedicure at home with the foot spa.  They are only about $20 or $30.  I think it’s great to have a foot spa at home anyway to take care of your own feet between salon visits.

Get a facial.  Facials are great, they clean and replenish the skin removing dead cells and revealing a fresher layer of skin.

Catch up on your sleep. Sleep deprivation causes premature aging.

A mom at peace and relaxed is a better mom.

Fall Date Ideas 2017

Looking for a little fall adventure in your datesAs an alternative to the classic dinner and a movie?  I love dinner and a movie.  However, with a change of seasons comes change in activities. Active being the operative word!  Some couples enjoy active dates as do I.  Active dates are a reminder that dates are supposed to be fun!  Time to leave the worries behind and enjoy the company of someone special.  Each couple sets their pace of what is comfortable for them.  So ask questions, find out what they enjoy doing and do it together.  Laughter and fun keeps you young, and decreases stress!

Hot air balloon ride. Take your date to new heights with a balloon ride. The view of fall foliage is stunning.

Indoor Flying. I’m so excited about getting to do this, haven’t done it yet but it’s on the list.  It’s a very safe environment with trained instructors and a whole lot of fun! Soar!

Dinner cruise. Not just dinner, but dinner in motion on the water with a view.

Hiking. For all of you hiking buffs, it’s always better when you have someone to share it with. Take plenty of pictures to document your journey.  Even better make a scrapbook!

Fall County fair. County fairs are great fun, great food, and awesome rides.  Don’t forget to play a game or two and win your date a stuffed animal.

Picnic amidst  a fall backdrop  in the park. The trees have changed colors and the leaves have fallen. Get out your blanket and enjoy the fall scenery.

Get dressed to the nines and go dancing.  Shake it off!

A simple hayride through the country.  Perhaps a hayride is more your speed. Whatever the activity two is better than one.

Celebrate Fall 2017

Fall officially begins today September 22nd, 2017! If you’ve been following me for a while you know that this is my favorite time of year.  With California having a year-round climate of warmth, it’s nice to have a slight change in the weather.  The days are still sunny but the nights are cool.  The resurgence of fresh cool air feels great!  There’s so much to love about the Fall season from the deciduous trees and their beautiful colors, to the activities, to the holidays, I love it all!  Not to mention the start of a new season!

A new season gives hope, and a sense of expectancy of what God is going to do next in our lives.  Hopefully you are enjoying your Fall season where you are.  Out with the old and enter the new! Time to take inventory!  What’s working and what’s not?  If it’s not working let it go!  Cut off the dead weight so that you can soar!  Matthew 7:19, “Every tree that does not bear fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire!”  So Arise!  Daughter of God because it’s your new season!  To God be the Glory forever!

Entering a New Season

Verse f the day:

Author’s Note:  Well Folks we just celebrated the unofficial end of summer on Labor Day.  Now we move forward to our new season!  Fall begins Friday September 22nd 2017.  This is my favorite time of year, fall and winter.  California is beautiful!  But I miss the changing of the seasons.  However I do love that I can get the best of both worlds here by going up to the higher elevations of California and getting snow during the winter months and experiencing year round resorts with the season changes.

There’s something about entering a new season that gives you hope, joy, and the anticipation of the good things that God will do next.  This is your season for a closer walk with God.  It is your season for healing. It is your season for experiencing good health.  It is your season of  new blessings!  Leave a comment and tell us how your being blessed in this season!

Mind, Body and Spirit

We are a three-part being.  1 Thessalonians 5:23, “And the very God of peace sanctify you completely and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  We are spirit, we live in a body, and we have a soul, which is  made up of our mind, our will, and our emotions.  We are a spirit just as God is a spirit.  God is the Master Spirit.  The Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit.  The “natural man” (unsaved),  is governed only by his soul and bodily appetites because he is spiritually dead. (1 Cor 2:14)  If you are saved today, you are a new creature in Christ Jesus.

However we still have some work to do.  We as born again Christians, have been made spiritually alive and we are supposed to be governed and controlled by the Holy Spirit and our own born again Spirit, the Bible calls it “the new regenerated self”.  So we have “put off our old ways”.  Old ways of thinking, old ways of doing and being.  While our spirits are saved, our minds are still being renewed.  This means we must deal with our thought life and emotions.  Part of the battle is the battlefield of the mind!

The enemy comes against our minds.  We must be careful what we put before our eyes and what we allow into our minds and emotions.  That’s why we are told to “take every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”  Our soul includes our emotions which are unreliable!  We can’t trust it nor can we let our emotions be the final authority over us.  Our minds have to constantly be renewed.  Make up in your mind that you will ask God to renew your mind daily.  To be renewed means to have a fresh mental attitude.  Cast down every high thing that exalts itself  against God.

God’s Word must be the final authority!!  Is it easy?  No!  It’s the toughest fight of your life, but God didn’t promise it would be.   He said He’ll be with us!!!!  The scariest thing for me was being out of the will of God.  I don’t want to ever be out of the will of God!  I’ve been there and trust me, “being covered” by God is much better.  I love this scripture, Matthew 10:28, “And fear not them which can kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul, but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in Hell!”

Do you know what He’s saying?  He’s saying instead of being worried about “people” living to please them, what you better be worried about is ME! (The Lord God Almighty).  Guard yourselves with all diligence, take care of your body, mind, and spirit.  Feed your spirit the Word of God.  Read to build up your mind!  Exercise to build your body and eat nutritious meals to stay healthy.

Healthy Habits for mind Body and Spirit

  • Eat real Food – Processed foods are a major contributor to obesity and illnesses.  Real foods and a healthy balanced diet are keys s to good health!

  • Move your Body – You don’t have to have a gym membership. Start right where you are, get moving by walking, biking, going up and down stairs, swimming, exercising at home, the point is to use or lose it!

  • Prioritize your sleep – When we are low on sleep it affects our metabolism, makes us irritable, low on energy, unable to think clearly.  A good night sleep regenerates us!

  • Learning something new – Expands our mind and thought processes and keeps us moving forward in life.  When the mind has been expanded it cannot go back.

  •  Avoid the negative – Negative people, places, TV shows, thoughts, concerns.

  • Focus on the Good and Positive – The Bible says whatsoever is true and of good report think on these things.

  •  Let yourself have fun – Laughter keeps us young!

  • Retreat to calm the mind and the body.

  • Show love to God, yourself and others –  You show love Love to God by reading his Word, obeying, his Word, aligning your life up with his Word.  Show love to yourself by taking care of yourself, show love to others by showing them you care.

  • Reach out and help someone else. We help heal ourselves by reaching out to others.

  • Pray without ceasing
